Today's Song Of The Day is Stillwater's Fever Dog. Stillwater is the name of the fictional band from the movie Almost Famous (or IOW, the Wikipedia link above isn't terribly relevant :P) and one of their popular songs is this track Fever Dog, a very 70's growly track.

A promo copy (with voice-overs) of the new Nightwish album - Dark Passion Play has been leaked on the Innernet. This is the first album with their new lead singer - Anette Olzon - after their previous (famous) lead singer Tarja Turunen was kicked out.

Today's Song of the Day is Pearl Jam's Rearviewmirror. The song just has so much momentum more or less all the way through, beginning with that excellent riff. The intro riff is incidentally the work of the lead singer - Eddie Vedder.

This song also holds bitter-sweet memories for me along with the entire Yield album.

While this song off Bruce Dickinson's Chemical Wedding is pretty catchy etc. etc., it's the solo by Roy Z that has me constantly coming back for another listen.

Today's song of the day, which has been on repeat for a few hours now is Yoko Kanno's Gravity, sung by Maaya Sakamoto (who is also a noted seiyū) from the soundtrack to the excellent anime, Wolf's Rain.

Today's Song Of The Day is Ayreon's Valley of the Queens, a breathtakingly beautiful vocal-centric piece. A quiet song, its beauty lies in the harmonies provided by the wonderful Anneke van Giersbergen coupled with the poignant lyrics which paint a moving picture (I'm a sucker for all things fantasy after all). I'm seriously hooked onto Ayreon at the moment.

Jacob's Ladder is the quintessential Rush song. Wonderful riff, wailing solos, exciting build-ups, drums that lend an entirely new dimension to the song and so on.

Wonderful, wonderful stuff. I rediscover this song at least once every year and go crazy about it.

The Song Of The Day is Björk's Earth Intruders. This is pretty much my first exposure to Björk (pronounced Byerk, like jerk), besides a vague memory of watching the video of Army of me back in the day. Catchy song, different style of vocals and lovely percussions + sound samples.

I've also been watching her videos including this cool one.

Considering my general taste in music, people find it surprising when they find me talking about Kylie Minogue et al. All I can say is that music is music. I don't particularly give a fuck about which genre an artist is in or if it is socially acceptable for a metal/whatever fan to listen to pop, dance etc.

Today's Song Of The Day is a classic rock ballad by the Scorpions - Still Loving You. I'm a sucker for most songs with piercing guitars and lots of reverb - they just seize your undivided attention. Coupled with Meine's unreachable vocals, Scorpions ballads are to die for. Still loving you is a classic example of this formula.
