Review

MIB3 is a good addition to the franchise. It starts off a little slow and vapid, with everybody (surely) cringing at TLJ's rubbery facade. But then there's an Austin-Powers like time-warp to 1969 and a younger TLJ (Josh Brolin) who livens things up. Good fun.

Ah! The joys of reading a well-written spy thriller. TTSS shows that it's not really the James Bonds that keep the world running, but the 'M's. The story is loosely based on Kim Philby and the Cambridge Five who were contemporaries of the author, John Le Carré as a member of MI6.

So, thanks to a lot of hype, I ... acquired this anime and watched it all in a couple of sittings. I'm a real sucker for anything that revolves around music and the fact that this is directed by Watanabe Shinichirō (director of Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, etc., who is known for blending music in really well) with music taken care of by Kanno Yōko (who is a bloody legend), is about as big a recommendation as any anime can get.

Wife in a coma. Wife about to die. Negligent husband and father comes back into the picture. Two kids - a rebellious teenager and a 10 year old going through a phase. Teen informs father that wife was cheating on him.

John Carter is based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' (of Tarzan fame) 1917 novel, A Princess of Mars. I haven't read the book. However, keeping the age of the story in mind, this movie is highly entertaining, if very Hollywood-sy. The story is a nice blend of sci-fi and fantasy with a decent plot and a nice twist at the end. The action is mostly good, the humour mostly funny and the clichés mostly bearable. But the acting could have been better.

A (probably unacknowledged) remake of A Walk to Remember starring that fell whore Mandy Moore (no offence to Mandy, but I couldn't help but rhyme), A Millionaire's First Love is pretty dire. Why I bothered to start watching it or subsequently sit through its entirety, I will never know. But I do know that I cringed on occasions greater than one and less than 500.

Mel Gibson is an unnamed driver driving a getaway car full of money and a dying (and soon dead) accomplice being chased by the police very near the Mexican border. Rather than being caught on US soil, he intentionally crashes through a border fence into Mexico. The cops on the other side (who were also following along) while initially happy to hand over the two American nationals back, change their minds upon seeing the money. They decide to keep it for themselves and hush Gibson up by imprisoning him in 'El Pueblito', a notorious prison controlled by criminals.
